"Godfather Expiry" (German: "Der Gevatter Tod") is a High german folktale that is included in Kinder- und Hausmärchen (Children's and Household Tales), the 1812 album compiled by the Brothers Grimm. Similar stories exist in Irish gaelic, Lithuanian, Polish and Mexican folklore.

The plot is ready in motion when a poor human being looks for a godfather to take care of his thirteenth child. Death agrees to look later on the boy and promises to make him rich. Adaptations

Films based on "Godfather Death" were produced in Austria in 1922 and in Czechoslovakia in 1960.

A 76-minute East German Idiot box film based on the story was first shown by East Germany's state broadcaster Deutscher Fernsehfunk on December 28, 1980.

"The Soldier and Death", the first episode of the British-American children's Television series Jim Henson's The StoryTeller, is based on "Godfather Death" and other similar folktales. The episode first aired on the ITV network in the United Kingdom on May xv, 1987.

The 20-third and final episode of the 2nd and final flavour of the anime series Grimm's Fairy Tale Classics (Japanese: グリム名作劇場; Gurimu Meisaku Gekijō) is an adaptation of "Godfather Expiry". The episode was kickoff shown on Idiot box Asahi in Nippon on March 30, 1988.

The American author Anne Sexton adjusted "Godfather Expiry" equally a poem that is included in her 1971 anthology Transformations.

"Godfather Decease" was adjusted as the 1950 novel Macario, also known every bit The Third Guest (German: Der dritte Gast), written by a probably High german-born writer living in Mexico known just by the pseudonym B.
